Say Goodbye to Google Wave

Another cloudy day... When the sun will rise to shine? I am listening to "This is the moment" from Jekyll & Hyde, one of my favorite musicals. I really like its lyrics. The song comforts me and gives me a positive energy. Let's dive into the today's topic then:)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you ever heard of Google Wave? It is a type of social networking service provided by Google. Google, at first, was so sure that Google Wave will rise above other social networking services such as Facebook and Twitter. Google Wave featured many functions that other social networking services did not provide or poorly provided. Let me list some functions of Google Wave with pictures to help your understanding.

Group Report

File sharing

Meeting Note

Brainstorming

Google Wave indeed provides some nice functions that other social networking services do not provide. For example, a group of friends can easily write and edit a research paper online while colleagues can discuss their department's agendas with ease. Then, why Google decided to waive Google Wave?

The biggest strength of Google Wave was that it allowed its users to collaborate easily online. Yet, it failed to grab the public's attention and Google, on August 4th, announced that it will stop supporting the service. What drove Google Wave to a fiasco? Let us analyze it.

1. Google admitted that the service was a bit ahead of its time and thus failed to capture the public's interest. Google mentioned that Google Wave provided too many diverse services without a single brand identity. Google's own explanation is quite plausible. Nowadays the public wants a simple yet interesting service. In terms of simplicity and fun, Google Wave was meant to face a quagmire.

2. The developer of Google Wave also admitted that its users might have had difficulty utilizing the service because it gets slower as the users use many functions at a time. This technical fault led the users to turn their backs away from Google Wave.

3. Finally, Google Buzz also partially contributed to a collapse of Google Wave. Jonathan Yarmis, an IT analyst, pointed out that Google Buzz is far more useful and convenient to use than Google Wave. He further commented that the reason why Facebook and Twitter are garnering all the people around the globl is that they concentrate on a single service that everyone is interested in.

People say that Google is planning to launch another social networking platform soon and expect to integrate various functions of Google Wave into that platform. Let us wait until Google comes with its miraculous service.
