We have clearly defined what social commerce is. We have also discussed why social commerce is getting popular. Now that we have dealt with the basics of social commerce, it is time to apply our knowledge to a real case. Today, I present you Levi's, a clothing company that is well-known for its denim jeans.

Social plug-in is a new application programming interface (API) service provided by Facebook. Once Facebook introduced social plug-in, over 50000 websites decided to use this service in about a week. Social plug-in enables companies to be more social with their customers and provide their customers with more personalized services. Levi's is a leading company that utilizes social plug-in to its advantage and actually drive more profits from the service. Let us analyze the process by which Levi's achieved the goal.

1. Awareness

Levi's makes sure that its customers are aware of the fact that Levi's is connected to Facebook by putting a notice on its webpage.

2. Education

For those who are not familiar with using Facebook, Levi's educates its customers on how to use Facebook. It even provides video clip to clearly convey its message. Thanks to its efforts, customers get to know how to use various functions of Facebook that is integral in social commerce.

3. Social Gestures

Levi's goes on to persuade its customers to actually make social gestures. It encourages its customers to use "Like" function. It even motivates its customers to "be the first of your friends" to use "Like" function.

4. Social Commerce

Levi's makes a shopping list for each customer based on the recommendations made by the customer's friends. This is the stage where actual purchasing takes place. Mission completed:)

What is so special about Levi's?

1. Since Levi's is connected to Facebook, users do not have to create their Levi's accounts. Thus, the number of people who have access to Levi's social plug-in is huge.

2. It is word of mouth marketing in itself. If people "Like" what they like, those on Facebook are notified of their friends' recommendations.

3. As I said earlier, it increases the chance of real purchasing.

4. If Levi's connects this service to off-line, that would bring Levi's huge profits. While people shop, they can use their smart phones to "Like" their shopping lists. Then, those on Facebook again will be notified of their friends' suggestions.

We have explored the world of social commerce. Levi's is indeed at the top of this game!
